Getesmani fled Ethiopia with a Bachelor in Architectural Design and Urban Planning. In her home country, the young architect had already started a glorious career: she worked as an architect for 2.5 years, taught at the university for 4 years and started her own architecture firm at the same time. You would think she could go straight to work in the Netherlands, but nothing could be further from the truth. With her mentor Anita, she investigates whether she also has opportunities in architecture in the Netherlands. Anita, who is a great sparring partner for Getesmani, ensures that Getesmani stays hopeful:
“It's easy to lose hope, but Anita told me “you're worth it” over and over again. “Without her, I wouldn't be here”.
This duo's perseverance pays off: Getesmani gets to work as a trainee at the successful architectural collective INBO! A great starting point for Getesmani to continue her career in architecture:
“My goal is to finish my portfolio by the end of the internship. I love going back to work every day, even if the weather is bad!”
