Rabeh came to DUO for a JOB with a clear mission: to become a women's hairdresser 💇 ‍He already started his education in his home country of Syria, but he was unable to complete it due to the war. Once in the Netherlands, he is determined to keep pursuing this dream. We pair him with mentor Joke and together they go on a journey of discovery. Not only to a suitable hairdressing course, but also in Rabeh's new city: Rotterdam. As a true Rotterdammer, Joke loves to show her mentee around her city. From cycling along the Hef to the top of the Laurenskerk, even OPEN Rotterdam made a video of it! 🤩
But it's not just long live the fun for this duo. They visit Open Days together and gradually clarify the steps that Rabeh needs to take to make his dream come true. The first big step was quickly taken: Rabeh started hairdressing training at the Zadkine 🔥. He is very happy to have met Joke:
“I've learned a lot from Joke. Thanks to her, I'm now playing football again and I've started training. I'm new to the Netherlands and that was especially difficult in the first year. Joke advised me about everything”.
Conversely, Joke also looks back on an educational time with Rabeh:
“I also learned a lot from Rabeh. Just the fact that you're leaving your country and coming to the Netherlands. You're up against so much here, but Rabeh always stays positive. He is open and friendly, everyone can learn something from that. Actually, you should all be paired with a newcomer once in a while. It enriches your life.”
